![]() Slow euphoria is what you experience if you take opioids or depressants, receive massages or hug a loved one. The first three dimensions are directly related to pleasure, which makes them relevant for our current discussion.įast euphoria is what you get when you take stimulants, exercise or anticipate that something great is about to happen. The State-Space of Drug Effects consists of six main dimensions: fast euphoria, slow euphoria, spiritual euphoria, clarity, perception of overall value, and external vs. Let us begin by enriching our understanding of the nature of bliss and its temporal dynamics: The Cube of EuphoriaĪ little over a year ago I conducted a study to figure out the main dimensions along which psychotropic drugs influence people. What would a good case for wireheading look like? In what follows I will (1) provide an account of what is known about emotional dynamics over time, (2) discuss the known pitfalls of current wireheading methods, (3) propose a system to overcome these pitfalls, and (4) make the case that combining wireheading (done right) with a systematic exploration of the state-space of consciousness might ultimately be our saving grace against the perils of Darwinism at the evolutionary limit. You have to run it on Google servers, and they don't publicly disclose the price schedule. The company behind it is valued at $500M, which means they have to charge so much to use it that big game developers are staying away. ![]() A few games are just starting to use this. The next new technology is Spatial OS, a back-end game engine for really big MMOs and virtual worlds. Those are all holdovers from the VR boom that didn't happen. There's also Facebook Spaces, which is a VR interface to Facebook that didn't catch on, and Decentraland, which was an excuse for an initial coin offering and whose blog is down. VRchat had around 10,000 at peak, and is now down to around 5,000. The last three have numbers of concurrent users well below 100. There is a new generation of virtual worlds - VRchat, Sansar, Sinespace, and High Fidelity. Now if vendors paid less and less for hides as the rate of hides redeemed for cash increased, it would provide a natural limiter on the value of that activity.Ī truly successful MMO would provide a way for the MMO owner to tax the activity of the players in a way that generated actual cash for them to pay for servers and developers. In the Ultima online case the skins were just worth essentially vendor cash, but without that market force in the middle, the economy tanked. Success in an MMO is in part a balance of these opportunities where a character can trade time for value. It created an economic stream for players who could "farm" the correct materials to disenchant to get the most in demand reagents (as I recall Greater Eternal Essence was a big seller). For example you could sell magic reagents which an enchanter could use to level up their skill, this was a quick way for someone to exchange gold for skill points. What I noticed during my years of WoW playing was that the market functioned very much like the 'in app purchase' market of more casual games. One of the more interesting experiments in the StarWars universe game was the market economics of things like furs. There are some excellent game theoretic problems in there, the ecology is just one of them. SL runs about 40,000 concurrent users, which would place it at about #12 on Steam if it were on there, around where GTA V is on Steam.Įssentially MMOs aren't just one hard problem, they are a collection of hard problems. SL now has a NPC system, "animesh", but, as is typical for Linden Labs, they just implemented it and gave out a few demo objects. All this is server side, so it's hard to break the protection. Anything which is both Copy and Transfer can be duplicated and sold. Clothing is usually Transfer, no Copy, so only the owning avatar can wear it, but you can sell it at a rummage sale. Items like furniture and vehicles are usually Copy, no Transfer, so you can buy one chair and set up a room, but not set up a car dealership. With Transfer privilege alone, you can give or sell the item to others, but can't make more copies. Owning an item with Copy privilege lets you make more copies, but you can't give them other people. The privileges are Copy, Mod, and Transfer. Objects in SL have privileges, but not quite like files. ![]() ![]() LL takes a cut when converting from Linden dollars to US dollars, but it's under 10%. This is entirely player based - players are buying from other players. The biggest operations make US$ 6-7 figures this way.įashion is a big deal in Second Life. Most of the administration of Second Life is handled by landlords. They have most of the problems of real landlords - collecting rent, handling evictions, dealing with tenant complaints and tenant disputes. Second Life has landlords, who pay money to Linden Labs for land and get a bulk discount, then rent it out. The economy is driven by land ownership and fashion. Second Life has a functional economy, but no NPC ecosystem. Look at the success of Fortnite - 8 million peak concurrent players. This is a big problem with MMOs - big working worlds can be built, but mostly people just kill each other. Red Dead Redemption online has all the great graphics, but play is mostly people randomly killing other people. ![]() ![]() Upgrade to Photoshop Express Premium to access extra, exclusive features and more precise editing controls. ![]() Harris’s fictionalized storyteller, Uncle Remus, was a “human syndicate” whom he had admittedly “walloped together” from several Black storytellers he had met while working from 1862 to 1866 as a printing compositor on Joseph Addison Turner’s Turnwold Plantation, outside Eatonton, in Putnam County. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh, were influenced by Harris’s creation of street-smart, recognizably human animal characters who speak “de same ez folks.” Walt Disney’s pioneering film that first combined live action and animation, Song of the South (1946), Disney World’s Splash Mountain theme ride, an endless array of Saturday morning cartoon tricksters, from Bugs Bunny to the Road Runner, and even B&G Foods’ Brer Rabbit Molasses were born, bred, or otherwise cooked up in Brer Rabbit’s briar patch. Eatonton’s other famous literary personality, however, Alice Walker, only begrudgingly acknowledges Harris’s influence, arguing that he in effect stole a major part of the Black folk legacy from its authentic African American creators.Ī whole gallery of children’s-story heroes, including Kim’s animal friends in Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Books, Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit, Howard Garis’s Uncle Wiggily, and A. Writers indebted to Harris include Mark Twain, Charles Chesnutt, Zora Neale Hurston, Flannery O’Connor, William Faulkner, Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, and Van Dyke Parks and Julius Lester (who have retold the Uncle Remus tales in richly illustrated multivolume sets). The Brer Rabbit stories have been translated into nearly thirty foreign languages and have had an impressively wide influence on writers and on popular culture generally. The remaining stories have their roots in European and Native American folklore. Two-thirds of Harris’s celebrated trickster tales-which constitute the largest gathering of African American folktales published in the nineteenth century-derive their deep structures and primary motifs from African folktales that were brought to the New World and then retold and elaborated upon by enslaved African Americans living in the southeastern United States. Harris, a native of Eatonton, was a literary comedian, New South journalist, amateur folklorist, southern local-color writer, and children’s author. ![]() The Uncle Remus tales are African American trickster stories about the exploits of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, and other “creeturs” that were recreated in Black regional dialect by Joel Chandler Harris. ![]() ![]() NOTE: We do not recommend taking baby starlings or English (house) sparrows to The Raptor Trust as we’ve been told by The Raptor Trust they will be humanely euthanized as invasive species. Keep encouraging children to want to learn happily without feeling compelled to do so. You can use flashcards, card games other than flashcards that involve sight words or other games that might be applied while studying in the classroom. If children are accustomed to hearing, seeing, or saying sight words, understanding 220 sight words is not a big deal for them. But the key to success in sight words is habituation. There are many learning media that can be used to help children in second grade learn sight words. How do you teach second-grade sight words? Because children at this age are developing brains and have a high curiosity. It will be very easy for second-grade children to learn sight words. These first grade sight word worksheets take sight word practice up a notch and offer a hands-on component, which is more effective than solely practicing with rote memorization drills. If you get more than 220 it will be better. Therefore, the average number of sight words that they can read and write well is a minimum of 220 words. In the second grade, children should have developed the ability to understand. ![]() How many sight words should a 2nd grader know?īeing at the 2nd-grade level will make children able to learn better than the previous level which is still dominated by learning while playing. With the understanding of words, your reading and writing process will be better. Therefore, words that are part of sight words will usually be easy to remember and learn. Sight words come from the moment when you understand the meaning of the word at first sight. If you don't have a lot of sight words, it will be very difficult when interacting with people around you. I also laminate them, too.Sight words are words that are often used in people's daily lives. However, I do print out every one of the flashcards because those are wonderful for quick reading skills. I print out the ones that we’re going to be working on and if I need to go back and do the others, I will later. My little tip? I don’t print out the words that my daughter already knows. You’ll find black and white copies as well as colored copies for the flashcards and worksheets. What is included in the First Grade Sight Words activities pack? Once they get their First Grade Sight Words down, they’ll be ready to hop into their Dolch Second Grade Sight Words as well.Īll of my learning packets focus on a building approach so you can easily transition from one grade level or learning aspect to the next.Īnother helpful tip to use these words off the printed packet is to incorporate them in your daily conversations as much as possible. They’ll see the words, learn how to spell them, identify missing letters, located the word, fill in the blank, and more. This is why this printable packet is so important! Every page in this First Grade Sight Words packet is geared towards teaching your child to read. Once your child can get the understanding and recognition down of certain words, it just helps them to transition into reading and learning other words a whole lot easier.
